PROPOSED BOSTO DAM WATER PROJECT

bosto1 The Government of Kenya through NWCPC has prioritized development of the Bosto Dam Water Supply Project in Bomet County. This is one of the main Vision 2013 flagship projects that aim to provide potable water to all in line with constitutional provisions and the right to water and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

NWCPC WINS 2ND RUNNERS UP IN STATUTORY BODIES CATEGORY DURING THE CHAMPIONS OF GOVERNANCE AWARDS

cog1cog3 NWCPC was ranked 2nd in the statutory bodies category at the just concluded ICPSK Champions Of Governance Awards. (COG). The award for excellence in governance was inaugurated in 2010 by ICPSK. 2017 awards was the eighth edition. According to ICPSK, “the award aims at recognizing institutions and individuals that exhibit the highest standards of practice of good governance”

Flood Mitigation

NWCPC has been the main agency in implementation of Flood Mitigation projects in Kenya.  Since enactment of Water Act 2002, the Corporation has undertaken various projects geared towards mitigating the effects of floods as follows;

  • Raising heights of existing and construction of new dykes along Rivers Nzoia (Busia county), Nyando (Kisumu county) and Daua (Mandera County),
  • River training/Drainage channels on Rivers Nzoia (Busia county), Nyando (Kisumu county) and Daua (Mandera County), River Tana (Garissa and Tana River Counties) and on Njoro Kubwa Canal in Taita-Taveta County,
  • Seepage control works on rivers Nzoia and Njoro Kubwa Canal,
  • River bank stabilization on rivers Nzoia, Nyando, Daua, Tana and Lumi,
  • Construction of water pans for flood mitigation and drought intervention in Yatta division of Machakos county,
  • Construction of concrete check dams on Olopito-Ilmasharian valley to minimize effects of floods in Narok town.
