TEAM BUILDING FOR PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

TeamBdg1TeamBdg2The board of Directors with the senior management held a team building for performance management mid November this year in Mombasa.

The forum, which was chaired by Board Chairman, Hon. Dr. Julius Kones aimed to enhance close collaboration between management and the board so as to improve working efficiency in service delivery, enhance corporate image, and most importantly, foster teamwork.

In his opening speech, the Chairman appreciated the board of directors for their role in leadership and direction. He added that forum gave the team an opportunity to engage with one another positively and honestly.  “We hope to brainstorm on the emerging strategic issues and articulate initiatives and strategies on issues that will steer the Corporation forward.”

The Chairman of the Board Committee on Strategy and Business Development Eng. Vincent Sidai said there is need to build capacity of the technical team for them to discharge the new mandate in an effective and efficient manner.

Dr. Alome Achayo, Chairperson for the Board Committee on Human Resources and General Purposes said teamwork is key for any successful organization. “Teamwork one of our values at Corporation because a team that works well together gets tasks and projects done efficiently and effectively.”

The Ag. Managing Director Dr. (Eng.) Ali I. Hassan said Performance was the main core of discussion. He urged members to deliberate on areas of accomplishing the strategic objectives of the Corporation. “Communication processes that include clarifying expectations, setting objectives, identifying goals, providing feedback, and reviewing results are the main corner stones of performance management.”

Mr. Julius Biginga, representing the Inspectorate of State Corporations urged the team to uphold governance standards and accountability. “As you are all aware, the Board is here to offer policy guidance and strategic direction.  As Managers, you are accountable to the overall Board through respective Board Committees where your performance are aligned.”

Also present were Directors; Ms. Caroline Mugwe; member, representing the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Eng. Samuel Alima; member representing the Director Water Services, Mrs. Halima Kiniti, Mr. John Kangogo; Chairman Finance Board Committee and Mr. Walubengo Waningilo; Chairman Board Committee on Governance, Risk and Audit Committee.

Mr. Malinda, a consultant from the Kenya School of Government gave insights on the role of management and how managers should work effectively with the Board. The consultant will also took members through various board models and shared habits of highly effective boards.

The Ag. MD thanked all those who participated to make the forum a success. He thanked the board of Directors led by the Chairman, the management team and the consultant, Mr. Malinda from the Kenya School of Government. On his part, the Chairman said the objectives of the exercise were achieved.
